12 Percent of Americans May Have Diabetes by 2050

Diabetes rates are expected to more than double from 2005 to 2050, from 5.6 percent to 12 percent of the population, the most recent estimates suggest. That means that in about 44 years, over 48 million people in this country would be affected -- and rates could go even higher if obesity rates continue to rise.
